9.) Pour a jar of nail polish onto a piece of wax paper and leave the brush and bottle in the puddle. Leave it in an obvious place, like on a family member’s keyboard. They’ll be confused and upset thinking there was a big nail polish spill on their keyboard, when it was really just an elaborate prank that you put together. For April Fools’ Day 2020, many people are going to be spending the day at home with their families. Because of the social distancing and isolation required for the holiday during the coronavirus outbreak, a lot of people will just be spending the day at home. So if you’re at home with family, here’s a look at April Fools’ pranks that you can play at home for your family members.
Completely wrap a loved one’s car in plastic wrap then cover in silly string. Mom, why did you frame that random photo of Steve Buscemi? If you’re quarantining alone, consider placing a swapped-image frame behind you in a Zoom call, and see if the person you’re video-chatting with notices. Prank your kids or spouse with an evil toilet paper prank. Put hairspray on the loose edge of the toilet paper and stick it to the toilet paper role seamlessly.
Plastic wrap a shampoo bottle
Not even the family cat is safe from funny April Fools’ pranks. Derrick from Simply Cat Care shares this “Trap Your Cat in a Square” prank. Create a square on the ground with masking tape. When your cat walks into, they will find themselves trapped, he explains, because they will think there’s a barrier stopping them when there isn’t. After your kiddos go down for the night before April 1, pour a bowl with their favorite cereal — including milk and spoon. When you serve it up in the morning, they’ll dig in for a hearty spoonful — only to find the whole thing frozen solid, utensil and all.
Tape the sign to the back of your friend, partner, or coworkers car. People will be honking at them on the drive all the way home. Just make sure that the driver is distracted while getting in the car so they don’t see the sign. This is an easy one that will provide a ton of laughs. If there are any area rugs in your house, grab some bubble wrap and place it underneath the rug.

These April Fools’ Day jokes are sure to elicit a good laugh from everyone. Take your kid' favorite toy or gaming device, maybe even your spouse's phone, and wrap as many rubber bands that you can around them the night before. Wait until morning and watch them struggle to get their favorite things out of this rubber band trap. 1.) Grab one of your family member’s phones and send prank texts to other family members, especially other people in the house. That can be a lot of fun and break up some of the monotony, as long as you keep it lighthearted.
Add food coloring to an opaque drink carton — say, a carton of milk or orange juice. When they pull it from the fridge to pour a drink, they’ll pour out a freaky surprise. This is a perfect but harmless prank for the kids to scare mom, dad, or their friends. Start with green and yellow food coloring, bread, and your favorite sandwich fixings. Put together your sandwich, and when you're done, add small drops of green and yellow food coloring on both sides of the bread. Prank your kids during breakfast by creating fake orange juice with a mac and cheese packet, water, and an empty orange juice carton.
Pranks to Do on Your Mom and Dad
We recommend testing this out over the sink first so you don’t end up having to clean up your own mess. Once it’s successful, sit it on a flat surface and pull the note card slowly out from under it. Extra points for leaving more than one around the house. Cut a slab of chocolate ice cream from a large carton, wrap in plastic wrap and form into a steak shape with your hands.
Will your victim be using some glue on April Fool’s Day? Mix in some red food coloring and watch their reaction. This would also work with someone’s toothpaste. When they do it, have a co-conspirator go in and mess it up a bit again. When you go to check their work, laugh at their reaction.
If you know when they start work, you can watch as the frustration begins. While they are still sleeping, cut out a small square of paper. Parents aren't always tech-smart, so get them good with this creative prank. You'll need a basic understanding of computer screen images. Before you start, take a picture of the current settings or write them down so you can restore the quality later.
Swap them with the Tupperware drawer next to the sink. This seemingly harmless prank will become overwhelming when all your partner wants to do is grab a spoon for their yogurt. Duct tape a harmonica underneath the front bumper of your pal’s car. Nothing monumental will happen at first, but they pick up some speed on the freeway, they may hear a whistling sound coming from their car. Maybe even crazy enough to pull over to check underneath the hood of their car.
Just be sure to clean the container out really well before attempting this one. Fill it with water and food coloring to match the fluid color. If you have a little money to spend, you could buy a new phone cover and replace your parent's phone case with the new one. In fact, Allan Borch, a growth hacker and founder of DotcomDollar, only needed a bar of soap and a bottle of clear nail polish to pull a prank on his girlfriend. “I went ahead and bought some clear nail polish, took the bar of soap from our bathroom, and completely covered the whole thing with the nail polish,” he says. “When she tried using it, it would not lather at all. We had a few laughs and I got some compliments for my effort.” Borch recommends allowing the nail polish to dry on the soap for some time in order for this one to work. We like pranks that are clever enough to throw a friend or family member for a loop, but innocent enough not to put anyone in harm’s way.
When your parents are asleep, sneak around the house and replace commonly used lights with the new bulbs. Start with places like the bathroom where light is most important. Startle your parents with potentially contaminated drinking water using a little Jell-O and some creativity.
Spread them all over the house and freak out the kids. Walk by one of your kids, or maybe drop it on their shoulder or head, and let a sibling or your partner point it out. Got a teen who just doesn't put down the phone? Well, if you have access to their phone, have a little fun with it.
Move the Keurig coffee maker into the bathroom. Just choose some really odd places to put things. Mashable supports Group Black and its mission to increase greater diversity in media voices and media ownership. Group Black's collective includes Essence, TheShadeRoom and Afro-Punk.
